Israeli airstrikes on the southern Lebanese town of **Kfar Rumman** killed at least **12 people on September 7**, including **two children and four women**, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. One strike hit a residential building during school hours, while a separate drone strike hit a vehicle and killed a paramedic.

The Israeli military said the strikes targeted Hezbollah personnel involved in transferring weapons and came in response to two Hezbollah drone attacks against Israeli troops. Israel said it had taken steps to reduce civilian harm, although no evacuation warning was issued before the strikes.

The attack comes only days after Israel said it had taken “operational control” of the strategically important **Ali al-Taher ridge**, including Hezbollah tunnels beneath it. The ridge has become one of the most contested positions in the current war and sits close to Kfar Rumman and Nabatieh.

The latest deaths are also part of a broader rise in violence across southern Lebanon despite the fragile ceasefire reached in June. Israeli strikes have continued across the south, while Hezbollah has maintained armed resistance and rejected key elements of the U.S.-brokered framework calling for its disarmament and an eventual Israeli withdrawal.

The timing is particularly sensitive because Israel’s advances around Ali al-Taher have already raised fears that the conflict could expand again. Iran recently warned Washington that a major Israeli offensive in the area could provoke a forceful response, adding another layer of regional risk to an already unstable front.

For southern Lebanon, the immediate concern is that what had become a lower-intensity confrontation is again producing significant civilian casualties. With Israeli operations continuing, Hezbollah still armed and the political settlement unresolved, the front remains vulnerable to another rapid escalation.
