The United States and Iran exchanged a major round of direct attacks overnight, marking the most serious escalation between the two sides since July. U.S. forces struck Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz, including IRGC air-defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities. Washington said the strikes followed Iranian attempts to threaten commercial shipping and U.S. personnel in the region.

Iran responded with missiles and drones targeting U.S. military positions across the region, including bases in Jordan and Bahrain. Tehran said the attacks were retaliation for the American strikes, while President Donald Trump warned that any further Iranian response would trigger even heavier U.S. action.

The exchange comes after roughly a month without major direct military action and signals that the conflict has shifted back from an uneasy pause into open confrontation. The renewed fighting has also pushed oil prices higher and revived concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes.
