Israeli Show Fauda Becomes Netflix’s Most Popular Show in Lebanon

The Israeli political thriller Fauda has climbed to No. 1 on Netflix in Lebanon, a striking result in a country that remains formally at war with Israel and where Israeli cultural products have historically been politically sensitive.

At face value, the ranking is about entertainment. But it also points to something broader: a large part of the Lebanese public may be far less interested in sustaining decades-old hostility than Lebanon’s political discourse often suggests.

Fauda is not politically neutral content. It is one of Israel’s most successful television exports, centered on Israeli security operations, Palestinian armed groups and the conflict itself. Yet Lebanese viewers are watching it in huge numbers, not boycotting it.

That does not mean everyone watching supports Israel or agrees with the series’ perspective. Curiosity, controversy and the show’s reputation as a thriller all matter. Netflix rankings also reflect viewing activity, not political polling.

Still, culture often reveals things that political slogans do not.

Lebanese viewers are increasingly exposed to Israeli society through streaming platforms, social media, interviews, podcasts and regional news coverage. Younger generations in particular have grown up in a media environment where the Israeli public is no longer completely abstract or inaccessible.

That makes it harder to sustain the old model in which Israel exists only as an enemy discussed through political movements and wartime rhetoric.

The timing makes Fauda’s success even more interesting. Lebanon and Israel have just gone through another destructive war, southern Lebanon remains unstable, and Israeli military operations continue to dominate Lebanese news. Yet an Israeli series has still become the country’s most-watched show on Netflix.
